The death of Osama bin Laden marks the end of an important chapter in the aftermath of 9/11, but does not end our continuing mission to hold responsible all of those who financed, enabled and abetted the murderers of our loved ones and caused injury to the survivors.Today, the imperative to end any terrorist financing has never been more central to our security. We have disrupted much of the physical capabilities of al Qaeda. Now is the time to cut off its funding and starve it to death before it rebuilds. As the famous line from “All The President’s Men” goes, “follow the money.” This tried and true approach is the only real way to effectively shut down terrorist operations.
The importance of JASTA (Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act) cannot be underestimated. S.1894 is sponsored by Sen. Charles Schumer (D - NY) with original co-sponsors Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Amy Klobuchar, [D-MN], John Cornyn (R-TX), Christopher A. Coons [D-DE] and Lindsay Graham (R-SC). The Act will reverse erroneous lower court decisions and break through the veil of protection and secrecy the 9/11 criminal enablers have enjoyed for all these years. Protected by loopholes and interpretations of our own laws. These individuals have mistakenly been protected by our own government.
